Caring for your Kokedama…
Hi plant land friends! Kokedama is Japanese, loosely translated to mean string garden or moss ball. In this case they are also crystal succulent gardens. They are super zen and elevate the energy wherever you hang them. They have citrine and quartz throughout to project and amplify that joyful happy vibe.
OK, first thing to do is choose where it lives. They do prefer partial sun; too much sun will dry them out, too little and they will be sad. We are looking for happy bright plants.
Windows that aren’t super bright, some sun is good and bathrooms are also good. The moss enjoys a good misty, humid bathroom.
Next is watering, you are probably thinking, uh this looks high maintenance, it’s not! They only need to be watered every 5-6 days and you can begin to get to know your Kokedama Garden by checking the weight. If it feels light, it needs to be watered. If it still feels heavier it does not need to be watered and you can hold off a day or two.
Choose a Method:
Soaking Method: Take a bowl of water, take your garden off the hook, place it about 1/2 way in the water, flip and do the other side. Let it soak on each side for about a minute or until it feels pretty saturated and heavy, hold above bowl, let it drip for about a minute then hang back up. It shouldn’t drip very much the moss is quite absorbent!
If you find it is super drippy you are over saturating it.
Shower Method: I don’t mean your actual shower this time, I mean your kitchen sink shower, the little hose. Take your garden off your hook, put the water on a medium flow, not too strong, and gently hit the ball from all angles until it is saturated and heavy. Wait until it stops dripping (about a minute) and hang back up.
Misting Method: The moss does like to be misted and so do the succulents, if you prefer this method you can definitely mist more often and stretch out soaking, but you will still have to soak every 7-10 days as the roots do still live in the center of the ball.
I hope that helps and if you have any questions you can always email: houseofaspiringlight@gmail.com or slide into those spiritual DMS. XO
